Muskoka Cottage Balcony and Railing

This beautiful log cottage features custom artwork from RailingArt.com as an inlay in the stairs and on the indoor and outdoor balcony panels. The beautiful nature scenes, which feature an owl, trees with detailed leaf patterns, and a moose with wildlife, help to accent some otherwise unnoticed parts of the cottage. There are over 30 balcony panels used on the exterior of the cottage, running along the back railing as well as two second floor balconies. There are 9 more panels used for the railing inside of the cottage.

In recent years, the program has faced financial instability and has needed last-minute infusions of money to fill financing gaps. But this year, the City Council raised the amount set aside for the program beyond what the mayor’s office had originally proposed, which was $8 million. Corey Johnson, the speaker of the City Council who had made additional funding for the program a priority, called the increase “a really big deal for creating more certainty and security moving forward for the organizations that do this work.”

Stoney Lake Cottage Balcony & Stair Rails

Previous

Walking up the stairs in this beautiful Muskoka cottage, you are guided along by laser-cut scenery of animals amongst bulrushes. The white pine wood surrounding these nature scenes is a sharp contrast to the black powder coating of the metal panels, drawing the eye, forcing you to linger a little longer as you make your way from the bottom floor of the cottage. Blue herons and frogs seem to leap out at you as you walk by, lit up by the natural sunlight streaming in from the large picture windows in the main room. As you turn the corner near the top of the stairs, you can’t help but notice that even the smallest portion of the stair railing has been filled with the outline of a graceful loon, maintaining continuity from the bottom of the steps to the top. As you reach the balcony and look out over the open room, music from the jukebox down below drifts up to your ears, mixing sounds of soft rock with the distant bird song calling from outside. Nature is close by, and feels even closer as you peer down along the balcony railing at the animals amongst the bulrushes. The journey from the bottom floor to the top was more than that; it was a sensory tour of the peace in nature, brought all the closer by the artwork alongside your every step.

Bring your cottage to life with beautiful nature scenes, and make every small journey about more than point A and B.

Custom Gazebo

This gorgeous custom built gazebo is at once a functional structure and a unique piece of art. The moment you step through the gilded swinging doors, it feels as if you have entered an entirely different ecosystem. The many creatures of the lake surround your feet in large panels containing scenes of ducks, blue herons, and jumping fish.

Bulrushes add to the theme, providing more privacy to the enclosure, as well as setting a background to the many creatures artfully cut into the metal panels. Upon looking up through the screened windows, you may notice the small butterflies and dragonflies that appear to be floating through the air. The screen keeps those pesky mosquitoes out, allowing all occupants of the gazebo to enjoy the beautiful outdoors in peace, while also acting as a canvas for these tiny laser-cut insects (held in place with strong magnets). The top corners of the windows contain a sun ray pattern, which brings shape to the frame. The dividing beams along the middle of the structure are tastefully concealed by narrow strips of metal artwork, showing a thick copse of trees. This scene surrounds nearly the entire building, and is both subtle and intricately detailed. The final touch is a goose posed in mid-flight, at the very top of the roof.

All in all, this featured project contains 7 large panels along the bottom, 7 decorative frames at the window level, 2 swinging door panels, 7 external art panel strips, and 1 piece on the roof, transforming a simple outdoor gazebo into a unique and functional piece of art. Check out some of our designs, and discover how you can bring your next weekend project to life.

Tom Tailor Trail Markers

Imagine walking down a cool, shaded forest trail in the full sun of summer, with the leaves blowing in the wind, and the distant sound of water trickling down a creek bed. As you walk down this beautiful, scenic trail, you come across a carved wooden totem. It stands freely along the side of the trail, natural in its beauty. A finely carved beaver stands majestically next to a carved tree branch of its own, greeting all passersby with a quiet, solemn stare. The tree stump it stands upon is inset with precision-cut metal artwork, adding further mystique and serenity to the scene. You move on, feeling calm, relaxed, and closer with nature.

Further down the trail you come across another carving, but this time it is a large frog that looks out from atop its carved stump, ever watching, yet seemingly detached from all that stands in front. The frog sits majestically above the carved form of a turtle, slowly climbing the tree stump that holds the raised amphibian. The back of the turtle contains a carved pattern as well as another inset piece of metal artwork. There is a certain calm contentedness resonating from these animals, and they seem to come alive in the wood. Pulling yourself away from the struggling turtle and the watchful frog, you carry on down the trail, humming softly to yourself.ail, natural in its beauty. As you approach the end of the trail, you spot another carving further down the forested way. With a haste borne out of curiosity, you approach this new totem. It soon becomes clear that there is a finely detailed carving of an owl perched atop its tree stump base. The owl is facing you with a look that is difficult to read, as its eyes are composed of stunning metal art pieces inset in the wood itself. The carving is so finely cut that the wooden feathers seem to overlap and flow. The owl appears calm and dignified, and this feeling transfers to you as you walk slowly by. You move on with your chin up and your chest out, boldly striding a head, ready to take on whatever comes your way.

This story is indeed a reality, as ten such wood carvings were made in collaboration with First Nations artist, Donald Chretien, and talented woodworker, Jim Menken. Mr. Chretien provided us with sketches of his art that we digitized, laser cut and powder coated. Over forty metal inserts were created from this original Ojibwe-inspired art, which were set into the carvings and then placed every kilometer along the Tom Taylor trail in Newmarket, Ontario (the local media picked up the story, which you can find here).

The beauty of metal on wood is always magnificent, and even more so when the wood has been hand-carved with an artist’s touch. The totems along the trail are just an example of the rich creativity allowed for with custom laser cut metal. Bring out your creative side with metal art by RailingArt.com.

Legacy Pines Custom Address Signs

This project at the Legacy Pines community allowed us to showcase some of our beautiful gates and address signs. Using a script design for the street names, and nature imagery on the opposite wall, we created a very dynamic and hard to miss entry way.

Coated in a black powder coating, our designs stand out strong on the red brick backgrounds. The long trail of flying geese along the side wall gives a great sense of life to the fence. Our custom gate gives the neighborhood a very sophisticated and exclusive touch.
